| We were all young once, but teens need limits
Research reveals a number of areas of concern that need to be addressed to reduce harm to Victoria's young people and their over-representation in crime statistics. These areas include age, gender and cultural and geographic issues, as well as education and job opportunities. There are significant prospects for improved collaborative responses. Young people are over-represented in every way in Victoria Police statistics. We have to protect their innocence and lack of life skills for as long as possible. I am often asked what would be good advice for parents. Parents need to set limits and their children need to understand what is acceptable behaviour, such as: DON'T supply alcohol to children under 18. MAKE sure your children know they are responsible when they get behind the wheel and how dangerous this can be.

Hikers: Not enough quiet space in Hills
Today, off-roaders can go anywhere they are not specifically prohibited. By the end of next year, when the new trail system will be in effect, off-road vehicles will be restricted to designated trails."Over 800,000 acres of forest will be taken out of use by motorized vehicles," Carroll said. "I don't quite understand where Colin was coming from.""I agree that's a positive," Paterson said of the new rules. But he and other members of the Norbeck Society say too many trails for motorized trails cross hiking trails or run parallel to them. For example, Paterson cited a stretch of the Centennial Trail north of Dalton Lake. Proposed off-roading trails cross the trail half a dozen times.Another example, Paterson said, was a hiking trail near Savoy in Spearfish Canyon. It leads to a spectacular overlook.
More charges filed in Herrin beating case
The charges range from official misconduct and unlawful restraint to battery and mob action. That list grew to 61 counts Thursday, one day after another gathering of the grand jury. Williamson County State's Attorney Charles Garnati would not comment on the new charges, most likely a result of an agreement made between the attorneys to keep quiet in lieu of a gag order.Michael Carruthers, Kyle Murray, Kyle Rinella and Clinton Ronchetto were each charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit battery, according to court documents. The misdemeanor charge also states that in addition to the conspiracy, Rinella offered someone a "free pass" in Williamson County if he gave up Wynn's address.Court documents show a list of at least 38 witnesses that Garnati might call at trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
Gig Harbor’s building boom
For decades, Peninsula residents knew the drill. If they needed emergency medical care; if they had to consult a specialist; if they wanted to browse a big-box discount, pet supply, office products or building materials store; and even if they wanted a good choice of movies, they knew they faced a slog over the Narrows to Tacoma. But now the dramatic development of a new retail and service infrastructure in the Gig Harbor area is causing a tectonic shift in the shopping patterns of those who live west of the Narrows bridges. "It was a change that had been waiting to happen for years," said longtime Gig Harbor businessman and developer John Hogan. Hogan's newest development, Uptown Gig Harbor, is the latest beneficiary of the booming demand for nearby retail and commercial services in the Gig Harbor area.
