By the time it got to the federal level, it was all about keeping white women from sleeping with black men. It's ALL about racism, period. As such, the whole drug war should be repealed. It does nothing but take people who should be treated as adults and makes them felons instead. The next thing that has to go is that stupid "three strikes" crap. Justice is NOT a baseball game, it's time we stopped treating it like one. There is no sense in clogging up the jails with people who don't belong there, and to lock someone up for stealing food when they are starving and it's their third offense is just plain stupid as well as being mean spirited as hell.
US Horse Meat is Unsafe for Human Consumption
A list of celebrity names against horse slaughter didn't impress me. Just because they are celebrities doesn't mean that they know anything about horses and their opinion shouldn't be given more weight than those who actually own horses and have spent a lifetime doing it. I have learned a lot about this issue and it has been interesting, but despite all the rhetoric from both sides, it sure looks like the horse breeders who are pro slaughter and that have made horses their very lives are in the right on this one, whether they are the majority or not. I like the analogy about the architect. There are also people in this country that don't choose to eat pork, but they aren't campaigning agaist others eating pigs, and it should be likewise with people that don't eat horse. If you don't want to process a horse, don't, but don't prevent other people from doing it especially when so much good is gained from it, like better vet practices.
Cong govt in Haryana will help settle issues: Amarinder
The state Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, said today that the installation of Congress government in Haryana would pave the way to settle all outstanding issues of Punjab with it. Capt Amarinder Singh said while the issue pertaining to the completion of the SYL, canal would be settled as per the decision of the apex court where the matter was sub judiced, the other issues pertaining to the transfer of Punjabi-speaking areas and Chandigarh to Punjab would be settled through negotiations with the party concerned and with the help of Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. The Chief Minister, who was here to lay the foundation stone of the stage-II of Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant (GHTP), said in a democratic set up the matters could be solved through talks and negotiations and hence he would make efforts to settle down all the outstanding issues at the earliest.
Toyota plans to add Venza to lineup in '08
Toyota unveiled the Venza at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It emerged at Monday's press conference from the rear of a room packed with journalists and drove down the center aisle to take the stage. The Venza is targeted at customers who want the room of an SUV but the fuel economy and ride of a sedan, said Bob Carter, Toyota division group vice president and general manager. "This product was developed because we saw buyers sitting on the fence when it comes to choosing between an SUV and a car," Carter said. The Venza, a five-passenger vehicle, will offer 2.7-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 engines. Both will be paired to a six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission. The V6 will be capable of towing 3,500 pounds. The Venza will come in front- and all-wheel-drive versions, offer a panoramic roof and 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.
