HANNIBAL, Mo. An Illinois man who was fatally shot by authorities after escaping from an Iowa hospital and striking three police cars during a chase in Northeast Missouri was suffering from drug addiction withdrawal. Authorities identified the man as Peter Jamerson, 27, of Homewood, Ill. Iowa authorities said he was suffering from drug addiction withdrawal when he escaped Saturday afternoon from the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Police said Jamerson, who was being guarded by a sheriff's deputy, stole a truck from the hospital parking department. He was being held on criminal charges, authorities said. A 21-year-old University of Idaho senior was found shot to death early today in his Moscow apartment. David Robert Boss, a history major and Boise native, was found dead by a roommate about 2 a.m., Moscow police officials said. Boss roommate apparently arrived at the apartment at 1218 S. Main St. about 2 a.m. and found the victim on the floor in the kitchen area of the apartment, according to a press release. The roommate called police. The death is being investigated as suspicious, said Moscow Police Department Assistant Chief David Duke. The apparent cause of death is a single gunshot wound to the head. No gun was found in the apartment, Duke said. .

Park teen killers fail to get sentences cut
Four men jailed for the kidnap and brutal murder of teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan have failed in legal challenges against their sentences and convictions. Mary-Ann, 16, was raped and tortured before being stabbed to death in a Reading park in May 2005. Her 19-year-old friend survived despite being shot in the head. In April last year, Adrian Thomas, then 20, Michael Johnson, 19, Jamaile and Joshua Morally, 22 and 23, Llewellyn Adams, 24 and Indrit Krasniqi, 18, were jailed for her murder and the attempted murder of her 19-year-old friend. They were all jailed for life. Thomas, of Battersea, Johnson, of Southfields, and brothers Jamaile and Joshua Morally, from Balham, were each told they must serve at least 27 years behind bars before being considered for parole.
